Most of us who have been driving for any length of time, through our own fault or through that of others, have dented our car. Maybe you didn’t see that mailbox until it was too late, or the car parked next to you thought you were just a little bit further away. Whatever the reason, these dings and dents tend to happen. So what can you do about them? Body shop sanding and repainting means more time and money. Instead, paintless dent repair (PDR) is a great way to get rid of these little eyesores on your car, so that it looks good as new!

What Is Paintless Dent Repair?

Paintless dent repair (also known as paintless dent removal) is a way of repairing minor dents and dings on your car without a huge hassle. It can be utilized as long as the paint surface is intact, and the shallower the dent, the more likely the repair will be successful.

How Does It Work?

Paintless dent repair, as stated above, can only be an option if the paint is intact, meaning it isn’t scratched, chipped nor cracked. If the paint has been breached, it will require repainting in a body shop. PDR technicians go from behind the panel or through the inner doorframe to access the damage, and push the dents out that way. Most basic dents can be taken care of with minimal effort.

What Are the Advantages?

Paint: While sanding and repainting requires the body shop to find the exact paint color and type used on your car, paintless dent removal keeps the factory paint job intact, so you don’t have to worry about a bad paint job or an unfortunate mismatched color with the rest of your car.

Insurance: Insurance companies like paintless dent repair, and, in fact, many insurers now have a list of recommendations for direct repair shops if you don’t have one in mind already. Additionally, paintless dent repairs usually cost less than your car’s insurance deductible, which means that you can pay them in cash. By doing this, many don’t report these damages to the insurance company, so they can keep their insurance bills lower.

Cost: Traditional dent repair requires sanding, priming, and painting, in addition to a multitude of other procedures. Since paintless dent repair doesn’t require any of these methods, and is just generally a quick and easy fix, it is usually less than half the price of a normal dent repair.

Less Time: Spending time without a car is problematic, and no one wants to wait around at a body shop for work to be done. Instead of wasting valuable time or inconveniencing yourself with no mode of transport, paintless dent removal can be done in a matter of minutes to a matter of hours (depending on the extent of the damage).

Convenience: An even bigger upside, many paintless dent removal companies will come to your place of work or home to fix your car, so you can plan it around your schedule.

More Permanent: Traditional body repair methods consist of removing the panel and hammering out the damage to make it as close to it’s original shape as possible. From there, they may weld and grind it, which is a much more permanent solution, though costly. However, many people go for the cheaper option, which consists of using body filler putty, a temporary solution. It has a lifespan from as little as a few months to a few years. Paintless dent removal, on the other hand, has a much longer lifespan, as the integrity of the car remains intact.

Quality: Since there are so many steps to standard dent fixes, there are a lot of ways that it can go wrong, and a botched dent repair is not cheap to fix. With paintless dent repair, it’s a simple process with little to no margin of error.

Environmentally Friendly: Traditional repairs must use non-environmentally friendly products in order to have an effective repair. Paintless dent repair does not require the use of paint or solvents of any kind, so there is no release of toxic chemicals.

Challenges of Paintless Dent Repair

While paintless dent repair is generally the best way to go if it’s an available option, much like anything, there are some challenges to the process:

Area Specific: PDR can get out most dents, but close to the car’s roof rails or the edges of doors are almost impossible to make smooth.

Materials: Different materials may make it more difficult to access and repair the dents, and as materials evolve, new techniques must be developed to repair them.

Whether you want to sell your car, or just make it look a little nicer, find out if paintless dent removal is an option for you. Your car and your wallet will be grateful you did.

In the aftermath of an accident, there’s plenty for a car owner to worry about. While it may be clear to you what’s wrong with your vehicle and what repairs are needed to restore it, insurance companies and repair shops often disagree about the estimated costs of repairs and throw the process into dispute.

In some instances, insurance companies reject a body shop’s estimated cost of repairs or will generate an estimate on their own, which a repair shop may dispute.

As a vehicle owner, these discussions may never come to your attention, as they largely occur behind the scenes. However, it’s important to stay informed about the condition of your car, the progress of repairs, and the process by which repairs are performed.

Common Reasons for Disputes

Costs of Labor – Higher-end and specialized shops often charge a higher labor rate than what insurer is willing to pay.

Replacement Parts – Not all replacement parts are made equal. In some cases, automotive insurance policies will guarantee original manufacturer parts in repairs; other times, they’ll insist the shop use cheaper aftermarket parts.

Extent of Repairs – Some auto insurers will ask repair shops to try and repair cosmetic damage to car panels before ordering a replacement body panel in order to save money, but repair shops will often assess the damage and include replacement body parts in their repair estimate.

Errors in the Estimate – Rarely, an estimate will call for the replacement of a part that isn’t damaged, was damaged as part of another claim, or neglect to include a part that requires repair.

Winter weather has arrived in full and families are packing up their cars for holiday travels, but road conditions and bad weather won’t generally impact the cosmetic conditions of your car. In order to keep your vehicle’s paint job intact and consistent, there are a few things you’ll want to watch out for in your travels:

Road Salt

Road salt is one of the most effective ways to keep roadways clear and safe for cold weather driving, but the tradeoffs are fairly severe: road salt can corrode your vehicle’s exterior and accelerate rusting through repeated exposure to road salts. This isn’t just a cosmetic issue – rusting on some parts of your car can create a huge safety issue and damage vital elements of your car.

Gas Nozzles

Dripping extra gasoline on your vehicle can wear away at your paint job if left untreated. Gasoline will stain your car’s finish and isn’t exactly easy to get off. If you do spill a little bit of gasoline on your vehicle’s exterior, grab a bottle of automotive detailer and a clean microfiber cloth and wipe it away.

Natural Sources

There’s no pleasant way to put this, but animal droppings and smashed bugs do bad things to your car’s outermost coatings. Bird poop is especially acidic and can easily wear away at your paint if left for any significant period of time. Bugs are similarly acidic and tend to find their way to your windshield and grill much more frequently and in greater volume than bird dung. Take your car to the wash on a regular basis to keep harmful natural substances off your automotive paint.

Interstate Auto Body and Truck has the largest indoor automotive painting facility in Eastern Washington, meaning there’s no automotive painting job too large for our team to handle. For reliable service and competitive pricing on automotive painting and touch-ups, contact Interstate Auto Body and Truck today.

Everyone’s had bad experiences with a car mechanic or auto body shop in the past. Without knowing who to trust or the abilities of any given repair shop, there are ways to smooth things over and ensure you have a good experience. Here are five ways to ensure your auto body repairs go smoothly next time:

1. Get All the Facts

How much is the estimated cost? How long will it take? Are parts in-stock or do they need to be shipped in? Getting these details down in writing can help you understand the timeline of the repair process and comparison shop at other repair shops.

2. Clean Your Car

When you bring your car in for repairs, make sure you remove any personal objects or necessary items you’ll need while your car is in the shop. After repairs are complete, expect your car back from the shop in better condition than you left it.

3. Take a Close Look

Look at the overall condition of the car before moving in closer to look at the repaired area. Uneven panels or small gaps suggest that the new panels not being aligned or installed correctly. To get into the nitty-gritty details, ask for a frame spec printout or reference sheet for your car and compare the factory specs with the post-repair measurements to see how your shop performed.

4. Check the Paint

This is one of the most difficult aspects of an auto body repair, as paint color and consistency matching is incredibly hard for an inexperienced technician. Looking at your car in direct sunlight is the best way to inspect their work, so try picking up your car in the middle of the afternoon to get the brightest light.

5. Be Courteous

Mistakes happen. Even the best auto repair shops will admit they occasionally screw up, but being accusatory and demanding is a good way to demonstrate to the shop that you’re not a good customer. Dispute a repair the right way and your mechanics will treat you much better than if you scream and shout – like with any business.

Sandblasting is a process used to prime your vehicle or machinery for painting or sealing, since it removes imperfections, dust and dirt from the surface. After sandblasting, the machinery is then primed for an excellent paint job. Interstate Autobody and Truck provides a variety of sandblasting services.

Our technicians are equipped to provide sandblasting for machinery, equipment, farm tractors, trailers, excavating equipment, buildings, tanks, and cars or trucks. We offer quick, efficient sandblasting services for a variety of machinery and needs.

As one of the most effective ways to strip and smooth a surface for painting or sealing, sandblasting provides an even finish on the machinery. The process uses compressed air to blast fine particles of sand or other gritty materials, which slough off any particles or imperfections in the surface.

Once finished, the sandblasted surface is smooth and primed for painting or sealing the item. Other than preparation of the machinery for painting or sealing, these are some other uses for sandblasting:

Removal of rust or paint from machinery surfaces

Roughening engine component surfaces for thermal spray coating

Smoothing away edge profiling or burrs from machinery components

Creating a matte finish on car exteriors

Surface texturing to alter stamped/molded products

Our technicians have extensive experience sandblasting and painting all kinds of machinery, equipment and rigs.

Interstate Autobody and Truck provides sandblasting services from our garage here in Cashmere. Additionally, since we know how difficult it can be to transport your machinery and equipment, we offer mobile sandblasting. We serve Wenatchee and Cashmere, as well as other areas of North Central and Eastern Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and even Nevada, Utah and California with our mobile sandblasting services.

Contact us for more information about our sandblasting services and to receive a free quote. Or, give us a call to book your sandblasting job.
